in 14:36 why are we writing position as absolute , we are mentioning header: :before so it should not position of the item is considered wrt the parent or it's normal position

it was a bit confusing at the end . like when i use section::before instead of header it still works but the 100% width and height isn't working. and if i use body::before instead of header::before its properly properly working too. why is that ? and also why i have to position the image ? i didn't get any proper answer. and if I try to decrease the opacity in the body css , it only affects the text not the image why? image is also a part of body . If someone know the reasons please tell me.
Opacity: 0.5 was better.
Or,
Opacity: 0.4 would be better also
